Desc: Life of Sam Davis: A Confederate Hero of the Sixties: Sam Davis, the son of a Tennessee farmer, leaves his rural home to attend military school in Nashville and is called to the front at the outbreak of the Civil War. In the Union army camp, officers draw up plans for various maneuvers and then leave for dinner. While they are out, Tom, a black slave, steals the plans while cleaning the officers' quarters with his lover. To protect Tom, the black woman denies any knowledge of the missing documents, and suspicion begins to spread throughout the camp. Tom delivers the papers to Esquire English, a Confederate sympathizer, who hands them over to Captain Shaw, a Rebel spy disguised as a Union doctor. In turn, Shaw entrusts the plans to Sam Davis with instructions to rush them to the front. On his way, Sam is ambushed by Union soldiers, who later question him in an attempt to discover the traitor's name. When Sam refuses again and again to reveal his sources, he is tried and hanged, but dies a hero in the eyes of his comrades.
